Summertime for homeschoolers? Oh come now, we all know that learning is never ending and summer is the perfect opportunity to learn about topics that maybe we never thought about during the other seasons. Take advantage of the beautiful days to sit outside, gaze at the clouds, watch for butterflies, start a garden... I think I'll hide all my pencils until autumn. TM :)
My goodness, time sure has a way of settling in and making itself comfortable while the children seem to grow smarter and smarter everyday. Homeschool has a way of putting the calendar in the back of the closet and keeps one in the present moment and not think about what's penciled in, especially in the summer.

TM :) This is harder to write than I thought. Over the past months (I don't want to say years because I haven't gotten to year number 2 yet) I hope that I have inspired, encouraged, made you laugh and most importantly, made you feel that you could do anything... you're a homeschool Super Mom after all! I will be taking a long and very needed break from posting on AskTracy. With summer around the corner, I figured this is the perfect time to do it.
Mahalo for all your comments and wonderful emails and especially to those of you who visit me everyday. You know who you are! If you need to contact me, you still can by sending me a note through my comment section somewhere on this site, I think it's in in the Who? section. Have a wonderful summer, and I leave you with this quote from a famous part-time homeschooler... "Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning." - Albert Einstein I have a hard time getting through Mondays, especially when summer is right around the corner. My mind is like a fidgety 8 year old who's stuck in a boring classroom! Thank goodness we're not stuck in a classroom otherwise I'd be labeled ADD real quick! So I have to remind myself to keep homeschool fun, keep it light, and change the view every so often. You know, like the way learning and teaching should always be! TM : )
I think I have been living on the moon lately. Is it that time of the year? Why YES, yes it is. This IS normal to feel a little whacky, do you know why? Well, I'll explain and see if it makes sense to you too.
As I look back and reflect on my years as a homeschool Mom (I'll be starting my 9th year in the fall, can you believe it? I can't imagine...), there are certain times of the year that throw me off. The beginning of the school year, and the tail end (if we're talking about a dog, more like the hind legs) of the school year. The beginning is most obvious. It's new. This year the beginning was a little scary for me as my oldest moved up from elementary to junior high or middle school or whatever your area calls the 7th grade. I felt like a new homeschool Mom starting all over again! And yes, the beginning was definitely out of sync for me as a homeschool Mom. See? You're not the only one! : ) Make sense so far? Next is the hind legs and that is where I am right now. The closer I get towards the end of the year, around April (hey, that's now), I get antsy. I am just like the kids! I am not satisfied with spring break, I'm ready for summer vacation! Am I supposed to feel this way? There's still school work to be done, and it is so hard to focus right now and being a little out of whack is starting to feel normal. But it IS normal because that is your inner voice telling you that you have been working hard right along with your kids and doing a great job this past year. It's your own little alarm clock ringing and getting your attention, letting you know to get ready for summer, loosen up, have some fun, and yes... be a little whacky. TM : ) Summer... Take time to enjoy life. Be here, be present. I'm going to do just that. I'll be back in a few weeks. Until then, remember, have fun with your kids, be a kid, and renew your friendship with them. When the school year starts in the fall, you will have a new outlook for the year, so will your kids. TM : )
Summer... The temperature is rising, don't forget to hydrate! I know, you've heard it before, but it still matters. Drink lots of water, take care of yourself, your health is important. TM : )
Summer... Is it hot where you are? Make some homemade fans! You know the ones, fold the paper, flip it over, fold again, flip it over. But before you start the folding process, decorate the paper with some stickers and colorful markers. Presto... Instant personalized fans! TM : )
Summer... Can you believe it? I'm already thinking about the upcoming school year! TM : )
