Treat the earth well, It was not given to you by your parents, It was loaned to you by your children. -Indian Proverb
Have a wonderful weekend! TM : )
Homeschool, home school
I saw this quote and I just had to share. Curriculum for today...
Treat the earth well, It was not given to you by your parents, It was loaned to you by your children. -Indian Proverb Have a wonderful weekend! TM : ) The weather is cooling down where I live. The radio started playing Christmas music today. It's Friday. I'm getting excited that the holidays are right around the corner and I'm in a great mood!
Today's curriculum? Writing lists. Thanksgiving menu, shopping list, to do list... doesn't that count for writing and organization? I let my youngest be in charge of the list. She sits at the counter and writes while I call out what we need in the pantry. She reads it to me during the planning and the shopping, and she remind me what we need to do and what we need to get. You won't find this curriculum in a textbook. This is fun learning at its best! Have a cozy weekend! TM : ) I hope you take the time today to talk about our country and why we vote. I would also encourage talking about what it means to be an American. I think the traditional school system has forgotten to include this topic as it may be politically incorrect. Politically incorrect to talk about what it means to be a proud American? I am so glad I homeschool!!!! TM : )
It's raining, it's pouring... Hey! Let's talk about the weather, let's talk about clouds and rainbows and lightning... Look around you, there is so much to teach and so much to learn from NOT a text book. Enjoy the conversations with your kids. TM : )
I just want to remind you all to take a deep breath and remember that you are doing an awesome job teaching your kids. The longer you homeschool, the better you become at relaxing. I'm finally getting it! I'm finally realizing that it's not just about the curriculum, it's about over-all smartness. It's about teaching your children to teach themselves. As long as they can find the answer, there is no stopping them in what they want to learn.
Okay, I'm breathing and I'm relaxing! TM : ) What a great day to be a homeschooler! The weather is beautiful, reading can take place in the sunshine. The birds are singing, let's get the bird book out and identify which bird is which. There is a gentle breeze, how does the breeze make the wind chimes go? Did you see the new sprouts in the vegetable garden? Yep, being a homeschooler has its perks! TM : )
Where has the week gone? Oh yes... math for my 1st grader, Mark Twain literature homework for my 6th grader, math for my 1st grader, Ancient Civilizations- the tests for my 6th grader, math for my 1st grader, and oh yeah, did I mention math for my 1st grader? My youngest should be in college math in about another 2 weeks if she keeps this up! : ) The joys of homeschool. To really, really learn something and at your own pace is another point (make it a 2 pointer!) for homeschool! Have a wonderful weekend, see you on Monday. TM : )
Lately, math has been the favorite subject for my youngest. Believe it or not, math has been the ONLY subject that my little first grader will do. As she explains to me, "I have to master 4th grade math Mom!" I have been quite calm about this as she is past her grade level, but what about any other subjects? I do realize that anything to do with the alphabet; reading, writing, you know, ENGLISH, has gone out the window for the moment. So what am I to do? Well, ... I let her do as much as she wants. I have to remind myself that this is homeschool and math is the "new black". TM : )
Just a reminder and I know you already do... Practice kindness on a daily basis. Your children will reap the benefits of your already generous nature and learn by the examples that you are setting. Homeschool allows us to put kindness in our curriculum and practice it day in, and day out. And you know what they say, "Practice makes perfect!" TM : )
We have made it to another Friday! This is going by too fast. Next thing you know, it will be the end of the school year, then summer. I can't even begin to think that far ahead! I just read Tara's blog and she's ALREADY picking her curriculum for next year! YIKES! Okay, breathe Tracy... inhale, exhale, wait a second... I'm not in labor or anything, it's just school for Pete's sake! And, who is this Pete guy anyway? I think I'll Google him. I think I'll Google how to keep time from moving sooo quickly. I think... I think I won't think and just enjoy the up coming weekend. TM : )
